After-School Classes

Concord Hill offers enriching after-school programs for Primary–Grade 3 designed to stimulate a child's natural curiosity and to provide opportunities for children to interact with friends in a study area of particular interest to them. Classes are held at Concord Hill School and meet once a week, unless otherwise noted.

October–April Workshops Are at Capacity!

Held in the Art classroom at Concord Hill School, MoreArt classes offer students the opportunity to explore a variety of materials and techniques in an open studio environment. Students can work at their own pace and on projects that interest them personally. They are encouraged to imagine, create, express themselves and have fun! MORE ART sessions are offered during the school year.

INTRO TO ROBOTICS

INSTRUCTOR: Griot Academy

Students focus on motor movement and robotics using Lego Education products, We Do with Extension pack, and Simple and Motorized Machines based on their individual level, in a natural, step-by-step hands-on learning environment.


JUNIOR ROBOTICS

Students build robots following instructions in small groups. Creations come alive with motors and sensors using the latest Bluetooth Low Energy technology to communicate with a drag and drop program through a computer or tablet. Their desire to learn is ignited while enhancing their skills in science, engineering, technology, and coding.


INTRO TO SIMPLE MACHINES

Students are introduced to science and design technology concepts while building spinning tops, cars, rafts and more. By playing with and manipulating the models, they experience pulleys, levers, gears, and wheels and axles while exploring energy, buoyancy, and balance. This is a great introduction to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) in a step-by-step hands-on learning process. Students use Lego Education products.


BEGINNING CHESS

Students learn piece movement, board files/ranks, and notation, as well as how to apply different strategies for the opening, middle, and end-game. All this just by playing chess with new and old friends! Chess is FUN!

Students work on development their actors' tools—body, voice, mind, and imagination—through the use of pirate stories as a creative spring board. They will learn how to talk like a pirate, swim like a mermaid, and search for hidden treasure. Parents are invited to observe the last 30 minutes of the last class for an informal sharing where students share what they have learned.
