Third Grade

The Third Grade curriculum clarifies the integration and application of the language arts and mathematical skills developed in preceding grades.

Language arts and social studies are enriched mutually by a literature-based living history curriculum that incorporates computer skills, drama, and art with creative and investigative writing. Mathematical concepts are taught with an emphasis on real-life application and problem-solving, while computation skills are strengthened and broadened.

Study skills focus on the development of organizational and time-management strategies. Children gain self-confidence, independence, and self-discipline as well as a clearer understanding of responsibility to others via individual and small-group cooperative-learning projects. Daily third grade service jobs not only reflect their responsibilities and privileges within the Concord Hill community, but also prepare the students for the next step beyond Concord Hill School.

My child found he was academically prepared for his next school. The work and study habits, confidence, and curiosity Concord Hill nurtured and instilled in him made for a smooth and exciting transition."
