The Second Grade curriculum solidifies skills presented in previous years while directing students in developing a broad range of organizational and study skills.
As students read more complex material and now respond both verbally and in writing, they produce simple research projects and creative-writing pieces that help them explore new worlds, express thoughts, and develop an increasingly sophisticated understanding of the world.
Problem solving and exploration of math concepts extends the students’ conceptual basis and computation skills. Students learn to assess, estimate, assimilate, and evaluate information.
An in-depth study of Native American cultures—geography, food, clothing, shelter, handicrafts, and customs—forms the social studies unit. Students gain a keener understanding of village life by recreating Native American villages within their classroom.
