Kindergarten

Each year students’ skills are further refined. Kindergarten is where many students either learn to read or refine emerging skills.

Weekly sessions with third grade reading buddies are highly anticipated, especially when the younger students take the opportunity to read. Children begin Writer's Workshop as they write messages to one another and begin writing simple stories. Hands-on discovery and concrete experiences form the basis for mastery of number readiness skills and basic mathematical concepts. In social studies, students explore beyond their school and family environments through classroom investigations of settings such as the seashore, farms, and outer space.

The day balances structured work time with rich and varied opportunities for play. Children learn to work and play constructively, developing concepts, skills and work habits that continually reinforce each other and prepare them for increasingly sophisticated tasks.
